"Coast to Coast". Részegh Botond exhibition at the RCI Vienna Gallery

Ort:

The Romanian Cultural Institute in Vienna hosts the "Coast to Coast" photography exhibition signed by the artist Részegh Botond between September 22nd and November 26th. The opening of the exhibition takes place on September 22nd, at 6.30 pm, in the presence of the artist. "Coast to Coast" combines photographic art and literature in the bilingual volume with the same title published in 2019 at Gyomai Kner Printing House, which will also be presented at the opening. The project is launched for the first time in Vienna, Részegh Botond proposing an incursion into the world of black and white photography. The Romanian Cultural Institute in Vienna organizes the exhibition in collaboration with the Romanian Embassy in Vienna.

Please confirm your attendance to the opening of the exhibition at uawg@rkiwien.at till the 20th of September. Also, in order to participate, a 3G certificate is necessary: the proof of vaccination, recovery or a valid PCR or antigen test.

"Coast to Coast" is the result of an exploration journey of American territory and spirit, initially following in the footsteps of Jack Kerouac, materialized in his own artistic approach in the 66 photographs taken from the Atlantic Ocean (Coney Island) to the Pacific Ocean (Santa Monica Pier). Beyond the artistic stake, the project places the visited space in a creative, contemporary, reflective and convincing format brought to the attention of the international audience.

„The pictures are not organised into a geographically accurate order. Only the first and the last pictures have a well-defined position in the series. The main ordering criterion for the other photos is the atmosphere of the journey. And the feeling of intensity. For example, in Europe nobody asks you «heading east or west? ». People are much more interested in a city or a country. This is something I understood during the journey.

I did not want to create a series on sociological phenomena; the only thing I wanted to capture was the joy of travel. And sometimes, maybe, the feeling of solitude.” ("Coast to Coast", Gyomai Kner Printing House, 2019)

Botond Részegh (n. 1977) lives and works in Miercurea Ciuc and is represented by the Yi Gallery in New York. Since 2011, he is the art director of Új Kriterion/New Criterion Gallery (Miercurea Ciuc). This was followed by numerous personal exhibitions, of which we mention: „Drawings from a Distant Axis” (The National Museum of Art of Romania, 2021), ”Anatomy of War” (Mogosoaia Palace, 2019), „Loss of Soul” (Museum of Art Timișoara, 2018; Atelier 030202, Bucharest, 2017; Museum of Art Arad, 2016), „Nightfall” (Romanian Culture Institute, Vienna, 2015 and Tranzit House Cluj Napoca, 2014) „VOLTANY, Volta Show” (New York, 2014) and Northeastern University (Boston, SUA, 2010).
